WHO WAS BARNEY
Shawn "Barney" Barron was a world-known pro surfer out of Santa Cruz who painted like the same fire that put him in the water.
Hundreds of originals. Elephants that fly, aliens over the Westside, waves that shouldn't work but do.
He's gone now. The work isn't.

9BARN isn't a licensed estate. It isn't a brand that bought a name off a shelf.
Barney's family are the legacy owners. Every product here comes off his actual wall — the vault no one else can touch.
When you wear it, you're not wearing a logo. You're wearing a painting somebody made by hand, from a life that was fully lived.

The goofiness only ever worked because the man was undeniably great.

THE CAUSE
Barney gave time to the Mauli Ola Foundation and Operation Surf — getting people in the water who needed it most. A part of what 9BARN makes goes back to that work. His fire, still doing something.
THE RECOGNITION
His work has hung in a retrospective at the R. Blitzer Gallery. Kelly Slater name-checked him on Joe Rogan. The story got around because the story is real.
